Along with being a wonderful place to go home to Venice Florida also claims the title of “Shark’s Tooth Capital of the World.” This derives mainly from the abundance of fossilized sharks teeth that can be found in the tidewaters and washed up on the beach.

Each year the city celebrates its sobriquet (shameless use of unnecessary word here, just learned it yesterday) by hosting the annual Shark’s Tooth Festival

Along with the typical small town festival fare like chicken on a stick, funnel cake and cheap coldish beer attendees can walk away with giant shark jaws or bags full of sharp little thousand year old teeth. It’s Florida kitsch at it’s best.
