Kailash the street artist

with one comment

title
During the Durga Puja in Udaipur Kailash makes a different chalk drawing on the street each day of the festival.

Each drawing has a message. This particular deals with the issue of Indian parents seeking abortions when they discover they are going to have a daughter.

Kailash feels that men and women should be treated equally.

I recorded the music from the window of my hotel room…

Cleaning up

An assistant to a local artist cleans the glass that covers a painting of the goddess Durga. The painting is on display on the City Palace road in Udaipur as part of the ten day durga puja festival.

Lines

This is an intersection just down the road from my hotel. The silver garlands strung over the street are part of the celebration for the Durga Puja. Every night for six days there’s music and dancing and lights hanging from everywhere. Amazingly beautiful. Shots to come…

Jamma Masjid

I wanted to get inside and have a look at the Friday prayer but I got there too late and they wouldn’t let me in. So instead I took a few shots of the outside of the mosque…

web
But alas the war is not yet over. After days and days battling fist to keyboard with Dreamweaver my website is back online and mostly functional. There are still some tweaks I need to make but for now this will have to do.

Go ahead, take a look. Let me know if you see anything that could be improved, implemented, changed etc. etc. and I’ll do my best to figure it out..

intro
That right there is the new Olympus EP-1 PEN. It’s a remake of an old vintage camera that was popular back in the day, in my mind it’s super sexy. I love my Mark II don’t get me wrong but sometimes swinging around that big black bastard around just isn’t the most subtle thing. The Pen on the other hand is slim sexy and oh so retro.

On top of that there’s an adapter available that lets you mount old OM Zuiko lenses to the camera. I have those! I love them! Man this thing is for me! And, they got me with their fancy ad campaign. Dare I say The Pen Story tugged on my heart strings a little? Why don’t you take a look for your self? I think it’s one of the most artistic ads I’ve seen. Stop motion, custom indie sounding music, washed out colors… Olympus you’re sneaky sneaky.

The photo at the top is courtesy of DPReview.com. Read about what they think of the Pen here.

Remember the day we met in Bombay...

Below is a little series I made of a recent trip I took to Bombay to say goodbye to a close friend. For the best experience view it in full screen, click options uncheck the embiggen box and select the slow speed…

And for all of those who care about this kind of thing I shot these photographs with an old 50mm Olympus Zuiko lens that I adapted to my 5D Mark II. I like the vintagey look that the colors take on.

Hope you enjoy it.
